Front Diff fluid change

So I finished up my read diff fluid change and moved to the front. It is a good thing that I tried removing the fill plug first cuz it wont budge. Anyone have an idea of what I should do? Maybe just take the cover off and deal with it then or what? Any ideas appreciated.

if you dont have another cover and you can't get the fill plug off, dont take the cover off! you don't want to get stuck with no fluid and no way to refill it.

you could use this as an excuse to get a fancy new cover tho

Pick a different reason because that one is both lame and stupid to perpetuate.

Smart. Its always a good idea to try taking the fill plug out first

As for your situation, I think it would be easier to torque on the plug with it bolted to your Jeep. If you take it off you will somehow have to firmly secure the cover to really crank on it and 2 if it doesn't come out you will be unable to drive your Jeep.

I'd just find a bigger wrench, or a pipe to put on the end of your current one.

throw a galvanized pipe onto the end of your breaker bar for more torque, you may have to jack up the jeep to get more clearance

maybe some PB blaster? not sure if that would be bad for anything if it works its way into the diff....altho you're gonna be changing the fluid anyway.

yeah i second the pipe trick. If you have a hi-jack, there you go. Stick the handle over your socket wrench and it'll snap it loose in a second. Impact gun (with 1/2-3/8" adapter) would loosen it.
