Front axle Questions?
What is the strongest front axle that I can just bolt into my TJ other than a rubicon 44. Or if there is another option I am listening(donor out of another 4x4). I am looking to run 36 IROCS soon and some other mods. Would my stock D30 hold up? Is it worth puting money into a Dana30? I know I will end up wheeling until it breaks but I am just looking ahead.

Only thing you can bolt in there easy is D44 out of a rubi. There are a lot of people that run 35's and 36's on the front 30. . . and a lot of them have no trouble, some do. . .

Just throw some stronger chromoly, 27 spline axles in there, keep the stocks as spares and go.

That sounds like a good idea to start. I just know there is always a weak link. I guess I will cross that bridge when it comes up.

One of the weak links are the ears at the ujoint. By upgrading, you strengthen this point

Personally, I'd take an HP30 over a Rubi 44.

A Rubi D44 is not a real full blown D44. The inner spline count is 30, but the outer splines is 27 which is the same as the D30. The Rubi D44 also has the same axle tubing and knuckles as the D30. Basically all you're gaining with a Rubi D44 is the r&p strength. I would keep the D30 and get some alloy shafts unless you're planning on running larger than 35s. You could even do a Super 30 kit with a Detroit or ARB which would alloy you to run 30 spline shafts inner and outer.

Edit: The most common vehicle to salvage an HP30 from would be the XJ. You want to find a model below 2000. The 2000 models started coming with the LP30. However, too old of an XJ is not good either. Someone will have to help me out on this one, but I think it was the 94 or 95 models and below that came with the vacuum disconnect and something like two piece axle shafts that aren't compatible with the stronger u-joints found in the later model D30s?

Well, the Rubi 44 is advantageous if you need lower gears than 4.88, which is as low as you can go with the D30/HP30. As for the HP30 advantages, besides what BYuen mentioned, ia that your pinion is up and away from the rocks, and it is a direct bolt in for the TJ. Add a Super 30 kit and you're in business. Prices vary depending on location, but you can generally find a HP30 out of an XJ for $200 or less.

Ah found the info. The XJ HPD30 you want should be found in 95 models and up till 2000 when they started coming with the LP30. The D30s from 95 and up should have the stronger Spicer 297x u-joints and not have the vacuum disconnect. Below 95 is a no go.
