friend spun a cam bearing

wow....her Jeep had about 80k on the clock and did this.

she's getting a new engine put in for, uh, 5900 bucks at Marsh

mine is nearing 100k. is there any reason to believe this can happen to my 4.0 or is something like that usually a freak accident?

to top it off, the tow truck driver had to make an emergency stop and the Jeep lost a KC.....

Freak incident. The 4.0 should easily last 200k+ with no major problems.

Any chance you can shop around for a better price that seems pretty high for a new 4.0. I know you can get one from quadratec, it is a direct replacement and IIRC it was about 2600 (not postive no catalog around). I mean hell even if the engine was 3k, thats 2,900 in labor, and they are just taking it out and putting a new one in, about a day, day and a half labor if the shop has all the right tools.
