Ford explorer sport trac axle swap

Hey guys I just ran across an 2001 Explorer Sport Trac with a d2 axle which would match my Wrangler 4.10 gears. Is it identical to the 95-2002 Explorer D2 axle in width and 31 spline that I have been looking for an axle swap? Or should I pass and wait for one off a true Explorer?
Thanks

Does it have drum brakes?
It probably has the 28 spline axle shafts.

Why would you suspect that?

I'd think it has 31 spline shafts since its pretty much an Exploder, but I cannot say for sure.

Explorer SportTracs with production dates of August 19, 2002 through June 29, 2005 are equipped with 31-spline axles and rear disc brakes and are exactly what was in the previously listed 95-2001 Explorer.

Info from another forum says 2001 Sport Trac will be 31 spline, drum brakes, and identical to the Explorer axle.

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=100932

I believe this is true, but I cannot confirm.

I should have noted that it was just a guess, based on this write up:

http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums...d.php?t=371713

Which states:

Before Aug 19, 2002, the Sport Tracs were equipped with the smaller 28-spline 8.8 axle shafts and used drum brakes.

Your link says other wise. Only 1 way to tell. Crack it open and count the splines.

Only 100% foolproof way is to count the splines before you buy.

What is the difference between 28 and 31 axle spline count if the ratio is still 4.10? Just a little stronger?
