Folding windshield....

Does anyone ever actually fold it down? Ive only seen it folded down in Jeep publicity shots, and on extreme competition rock crawlers.

Yet, it was one of the demands by jeep owners for the new 07 model.

So does anyone actually do it?

Also, my strap that ties the windshield to the hood is missing. Is there a cheap alternative?

I bought my TJ new in February of 2001 . Here in Pa. that means it's usually pretty darn cold .

That same week I removed the hard top to get the soft top out to store it . So I went a little further and folded the windshield down a took her for a drive .

It was about 15 F degrees out . I probably went any where from 30 ~ 40 mph & maybe for about a mile out & back .

My eyes never watered so bad in my life !

It was exhilarating to say the least

except for off roading, driving with the windshield down means you have to follow the same rules as motorcycles when it comes to eye protection.

I see em folded down on the trails all the time. Believe it is illegal to drive on the streets with them folded. As far as the strap to hold them down....hmmm....I don't have mine either. I'm sure you could make something pretty cheap that would work.

I think the manual/video says you aren't supposed to drive over 10 mph with the windshield down. I could be wrong though...

No, im pretty sure driving on the road with it down is illegal in most areas. I was more talking about trails and wheeling and such.

All the wheeling pics show the windshield up. Just wonder why it was a big deal to have a folding windshield when it seems no one ever puts it down.

its for trail running, when dust and crap collects on your windshield. wear a dusk mask. or a bandana over your mouth for the outlaw look

I tried to drop mine down once when I went romping cause there was a poker run and I was afraid of some a** kicking rocks at the window and breaking it. But I coudln't get the bolts out and ended up snapping one off. So I'm stuck with only onebolt on the driver side and it makes a loud noise above 65mph. I need it fixed.

Not to mention if you drop your window down, the cage isnt supported at the point it connects to the windshield. So it would be dangerous in a roll unless you got a custom cage. which I want

And not to mention the fact that you don't have a rear view mirror .. making it illegal in most states (you can drive without door mirrors .. but not without the center one)

ya true, depending on the state. Here in KY I see people driving trucks with 15 people in the back, no mirrors at all, no lights, no plates, nothing...
