fog light wiring ??

Ok. My jeep did not come with factory fog lights. I bought some aftermarkets and to put in the stock location. I am going to use a factory switch on them.
My question is where is the factory wiring at in the front? The wiring for the switch is there (behind the instrument panel) but I can't find it behing the grill. Do the wires run up to the front with the headlight wires or are they in a seperate place?

thanks for your help
Joe

my fogs wires are coming out from the wires that go to the turn signals.

thanks for the help bucket110. However, they're not there. I have been trying to figure it out all afternoon and I can't find them. I put the switch in and got backlight power to it but I still can't find the plugs for the lights. I'm sure they are up there but it's beyond me where those things are hiding at.

Hey, motox851,
what year do you have? I have an '02 and I can take a pic of the harness in the front if that will help...

Not sure if yours is the same as my 02 X, however I did not have the wiring in place - I had to run a new set of wires to install the factory fogs - mine did not have it pre-run....

I would recommend a different approach Here's why

The factory wiring for OEM Fog lights is meant for 55 Watt lights. If you are running aftermarket lights, what wattage are they? I would "upgrade" the wiring and disregard any factory wiring completely for this application

Here are the parts you need
Several lengths of 12Awg wire for wiring from battery and to the lights

Several lengths of 14 Awg wire for tapping into 12V (Switch)

1 30Amp rated Standard automotive relay

You stated that you have the factory switch

Here is the connection Info you will need

On the back of the switch you will see little number above the pins (1,2,3,4).
Pin 1: Ground
(use ground below speakers on either side of dash)

Pin 2: 12v in

(If you tap into the parking lights, your fogs will work with a minimum of the Parking Lights and will turn off with the rest of the lights using the headlight switch)

Pin 3: Hot to relay(relay pin 86)

Pin 4: Dash Illumination

Relay wiring:
Pin 30: Hot to battery
Pin 85: Ground
Pin 86: Hot from switch (switch pin 3)
Pin 87: Hot to lights

Here's a schematic

Well , I went down to the Jeep to check out my wires again and no luck. The wires come through the fender and split two ways. One, to the turn signal and the other to the side marker. No other wires hanging there oh well. However, thanks to deaver now i know how to wire it up manually. Guess what I'll be doing tommorrow night.
thanks guys

Deaver helped me get my fogs set up on my '02 X. Dunno about the '00 and '01, bu the '02 does not come pre-wired like the previous years do.
I set mine up to use the parking light as a source for 12v to activate the switch, and a direct feed to the battery for the relay. Don't forget a single 10am fuse per lamp.
The wire for the parking lights is just behind the horn, and is black with a yellow stripe.

thanks guys for your help. Got everything wired up today. Put a voltmeter on my wires running to the lights. Everyhing was working. Went back hid my wires, bolted down the relay, and plugged in the lights. Flipped the switch and nothing. I tested all the wires and had power going into the relay but none coming out. I must have accidently grounded one of the hot wires on the relay when I was putting it on or something. Oh well, going tommorrow to buy another relay see if it works then. This is starting to become a project.
thanks again,
motox851
