Fluids for 2005 6spd Rubicon

I hate having to wait to get fluids for my vehicles. I tend to use whats available at Walmart or a parts store just in case I need it on the weekend.

I searched and didn't come up with any definite answers. Can anyone tell me readily available trans, transfer case, and diff fluids for an 05 Rubicon with a 6spd tran. Quantities would also be nice. I'm looking for opinions, I know what the manual says.

Thanks Allot,

Mrcln1

I run ATF +4 in my NP231. Valvoline 80w90 gear oil in my diffs. Mobil 1 syn 6 quarts for the I-6. Royal Purple synchromax is in my 5spd NV3550. Prestone in my radiator. Here is a great list of all fluids and capacities for TJs:

I'm not sure if it's all gonna be the same for mine. I already have some diff additive from the dealer. I read I wouldn't need it but they said the same bout my 05 GTO and I ended up having to use some with Royal purple. It was supposed to already have it but not enough. I know the diffs a little different and I'm thinking the trans case and trans will be too. Thanks anyway.

Use this link. It has all of the fluids you will need along with quantities. If you order tomorrow you would easily have it by the weekend. There is a warehouse in Richmond, you could have stuff in 2 days more than likely. Let me know if you have any questions.

You don't need lsd friction modifier for the Rubicon axles. The Rubicon does have an lsd in the rear, but it is not a clutch pack lsd. It is a helical torsional gear type that doesn't require the additive.

For the 6 speed, you need to use an oil that meets the MS-9224 requirement.

Amsoil syncro seems to be the best out there that meets the reqirement. RP doesnt meet it, but has had many great results.

I think the local Napa sells Amsoil and theres a racing dealer about 30 mins away that sells Royal Purple. If it says synchromesh or synchromax it's ok? I wish Advance or somewhere thats open 7 days a week sold something. Both links are very informative. Amsoils really got there stuff together, they actually take the time to look at what each vehicle needs. Did they make a 5spd in 05?

Thanks,

Mrcln1

Nope 05-06 is when they switched to the 6 spd NSG370.

Both the 5 speed (nv3550) and the 6 speed ns370 take the same fluid, Synchromesh

As does the 231 and 241 t-case, ATF+4.

If you want to stick with 1 brand of fluid for all fluids and want synthetic, stick with Amsoil, Ridin` Around can be your 1 stop shopping. Royal Purple is another synthetic choice, but you may have to look around to find everthing.

If you don't care about brand or type (syn or non), there are many other good choices. The only other non-synthetic choice for your tranny (other than dealer) in Pennzoil Synchromesh.

Post #7 is the best link for what and how much you need.

Thanks guys. Just filled her up with Royal Purple synchromax. She took just under 2 containers. Since the transfer case see's allot less use I'll probably go a cheaper route than Royal Purple for that. Got some Lucus for the diff before I got the Royal Purple so I'll use that this time and go with Royal Purple next time. I also have some diff additive from the dealer but I guess I don't need that. Rear tires have been squealing a little on sharp turns in parking lots and such. Diffs gonna be a pain with the gas tank in the way though, not looking forward to that.

Thanks Again,

Mrcln1

Everything seems fine but the front diff took almost 2 qts. The fluid list in the link says it should only hold 1.375. Should I drain some out???

Thanks,

Mrcln1
