flowmaster 40 or 50?

I want to put on either a flowmaster 40 or 50 series and wanted to know which one sounded better. I have the 4.0 and I want to be able to hear the exhaust yet want it to be low and deep nothin like rice. I have heard from some mechanics that said the 40 is loud or perfect, the 40 is loud and obnoxious like a speedbike, or the 50 is deep and low yet you cant hear it while cruising on the highway or it is too soft. I am confused and would like to know some opinions.

I have the flowmaster 40 series delta flow muffler and i really like the sound of it. The jeep sounds like a V8 when it idles but doesn't sound like a ricer when i gas it. get the 40 series if you want some better sound.
Just my opinion.

I have the 40 delta series also. It sounds ok i guess but i would of rather have stock or catbacks. It doesnt sound too ricey in the high rpms but there is a hint of it in there. If i were you id save the 130 bucks for something else

I would love to get my exhaust sounding better. But I want a deep tone. I can't stand the high rice sound, most of them sound like a fart pipe to me! Keep us informed if you get the deep sound your looking for.

Ive got the 50 series flowaste on mine, Have changed the pipe from 2" to 2.25" from the muffler back, It has a deep tone especially after start up, rather quiet going down the road and deep tone but quiet when accelerating, nowhere near ricey, If i had it to do over again, i probably would go with the 40 series as i like it a little loud..

If you like quiet and a good sound go with the 50

I've got the 40's on my vette. Idle is noticeably agressive, and revving the engine is absolutely violent.
Since my vette is only a weekend cruiser, that's fine. But if I were going to be driving around town, I wouldn't go with 40's.

Don't mind me... I'm just the comic-relief, talking bear.

I have the newer Super 40, great idle, nice and deep, and sounds great up until about 2 and a half, then it does get a bit of rice to it, almost like its not enough muffler for the motor.... I am thinking about swapping, either a 50 or a Banks...

Lets compare what he is asking about, There is a big difference the way a V-8 sounds with a 40 and the way a L-6 sounds with a 40.

I ended up getting the original 40 series muffler installed. its is deep but not as loud as i expected. i was hoping a tone closer to the duals on the V8s. i kept the stock pipes. i Have a friend that has a 4.2 liter grand cherokee that has a single chamber flowmaster and the pipe is cut off pointed down about 3 inches after the muffler. his is extremely loud. i guess its ok for now.

Instead of spending the $$$ on the exhaust system, Maybe you should spend it for a spelling class at the local college

I have the 50 delta flow series kit from Rusty's Offroad, cost about $170 but I like the way it sounds when it starts up and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear have a nice deep tone but once I get into 5th and on the highwaythe tone dies out. With the top off I can still hear the exhaust when cruising but w/the the hard top there is very little noise. I am very pleased w/this setup and it has a deep tone while not being obnoxious and too loud inside the Jeep.
