Flat Spot

Hi everyone. I need some imput on a minor irritation Im having with my Rubicon. I have a 2004 Rubicon, five speed, six cylinder.

The problem Im having is a flat spot/stumble off idle or when shifting through the gears. The dealer says its normal because of the cam it has. Does anyone here have any experience with this in their Jeeps?

Make sure the air intake on your throttle body is tight, no gaps, also check the bolts on the TB itself, make sure all the vacuume hoses are on and not loose fitting. that can give you a stumble.. just an idea

Do a search, I think that is a pretty well know problem with later model sixes.
( Yeah, one thing my 4 cylinder is better at than a six, no stumbling) Of course the whole power curve is a flat spot.

The flat spot on 2006 Rubi LJ was covered a month or two ago so it is not unlikely you have a similar issue. Mine has improved some since i passed 10K miles but there is still a noticable flat spot when shifting 2-3....

You may still need that fuel pump... Our problem is on the I6...
Your sig says you have an I4? Can't attest to anything on the I4...

Sorry... I get your reference now. You meant in regards to tightening down TB, hose and all that....

Duh!

Definitely good to check all your connections prior to replacing hardware.
Don't forget to consider your fuel filter as well prior to changing the pump.

If I understand what you were trying to say is correct, you mean when you hit the gas, it seems like it's not getting power from 1500 rpm to 2300 or so RPM. This is normal with the cam that is installed on anything with the 242 4.0. From the 258 to the 242, they put a cam with extremly small lobes on it which is good for LOW end torque. If I remember researching correctly, the reason it goes and then comes back is from a dual shape (I forgot the exact term) on the cam.
