First diff fluid change at 12K miles

Hi guys and gals,

I changed my diff fluid on the 06 Unlimited Rubicon this afternoon, and noticed some metallic buildup on the magnetic diff plugs, both front and rear. Not a lot, but definitely noticable. Nothing but a film, no filings or chuncks.

I believe this to be normal. Any comments?

Thanks,
Mike H. in Sedona, Az.

as long as their weren't any big pieces or chunks i wouldn't worry about it

it's two metal gears turning against each other very fast, there's going to be some metallic buildup

That's normal. It's when you have small chunks of metal then it's a problem. You'll notice the same when you change your tranny and t-case fluid as well.

the other thing to look for, is in the bottom of your catch pan, if you see any metalic chips or glitter, as if you were panning gold.

It's normal. When you start moving the gears don't have a lot of oil
on them. As the gear rotates around, the part of the gear in the sump
at the bottom of the pumpkin puts oil on the pinion gear.

Normal wear and tear.
