Filling AX-5 through shift tower?

I've heard it possible and easier to fill transmission fluid this way on an AX-5, anybody have a quick breakdown on whats involved as far as getting to it in this manner?

you need a tube and funnel, remove shift cole covers, open the fill bolt on the side of trans (like you normally would) then put the hose in that hole (not the one the shifter uses) and put funnel in hose and fill till oil comes out
