Fast Blink Turn Signal - Just Replaced Bulb

Hey guys... Just replaced a bulb in the rear taillight/turn signal on my 04 Sport due to a fast click indicator. THe bulb works fine (and burns notably brighter than the OEM I might add)... but the fast click remains.

Looking at the rear section everything seems okay, however it looks like the front side marker turn signal is not lighting up.

Does that affect the system the sam way? (ie causing fast-blink)? Is it as easy of a replacement?

Kinda odd that both (rear tail/turn light and front side marker) would blow at the same time... I had just installed a CB (Cobra 75STWX)...though it seems if that would have caused issues it wouldn't have been isolated to those two distinct areas... no?

I'm going to check out the side marker light on my lunch break but anyone have any suggestions beyond "Just hit it"?

Thanks

I had the same thing happen. I had installed the new bulb 180 degrees off. It sure looked right, but upon examination I turned it and put it in and all was well.

the front side blinker on the fender will effect the speed of the blink, check all the bulbs on whichever side it is and see if another may be burned out. turn the parking lights on to check it too

I had same issue. Turned out to be corroded 3157 bulb socket. It was $9 from dealer. Also NAPA, Autozone, Pepboys and O'reilys did not carry the specific 3157 socket. They only carried universal or Ford 3157 sockets which I did not want to splice. Another possibility is a loose ground.

When you installed the cb did you use a bracket behind the tailight to hold the antenna?? I needed to take off the cover and crank down the three bolts that hold on the rear light to get a good ground... but that wouldn't explain if the side marker really isn't working just a thought.

I had the same problem when my switch went bad (the lever/whole assembly). I replaced the bulbs and that didn't do anything. It was totally random until one day my blinkers stopped all together. Then I replaced it and all was well.

Much of the time this will be caused by the bulb and the contacts in the socket now making good contact. Get a pick and pull the contacts in the socket up a bit and re-insert bulb. If they break off then the issue was probably corrosion and you should get a new socket.

Must be a common problem, my wife's '99 is doing it to. Her left brake light and turn signal still don't work after cleaning the contacts and new bulb. All the posts I've read lead to the turn signal switch - $90 - ouch!

Is this where I'm headed?

are you positive you used the correct replacement bulb? i once used the wrong bulb to replace the turn signal in my YJ & it made ALL of my lights go whacky. the two bulbs basically looked exactly the same, but the part numbers were different... as well as the contact points.

I had a similar thing.....fast ticking, but the bulb worked sometimes. Turns out it was a bad bulb switch inside.....$149 to fix it. Had to do it though, wouldn't pass inspection without it. Sucks too because it only has 23k miles on it.

Funny story....dealer called to tell me what it was, ended up getting my wife on the phone because I was at work. Told her that how much it cost, and oh yeah, I needed a front and rear diff fluid change. I go in to pick it up for a blinking turn signal light and the guy tells me that my wife approved the work and I now owe him $435! I didn't know whether to smack him, my wife or both! Just kidding.

Hopefully it's a ground, but don't be surprised if it is the switch.

I dunno - an 1157 is an 1157 to me. And putting it in the wrong way is even beyond my lameness.

Taillight works but I'll check the ground. Maybe it's an exhaust bearing Thanks all.

Found Mine

I finally found the fast blink / no left turn problem with my wife's TJ. The previous owner had installed a 'block' behind the rear turn signal to have operational lights using a towing vehicle. Quite simply, one of the wires had disconnected.

All I did was pinch the spades tighter and reconnect. I could have removed the connector block but it was too easy just to put it back the way it was.

(sorry for the muffler bearing remark, uncalled for.)
