Fan Clutch bad?

Was just wandering what your guys opinion is, (as I hate replacing things that are not needed).

The back of the fan clutch looks like it lost its gasket and there are not bearings all the way around inside the housing. It is not seized as it still rotates but it is pretty hard to turn (regardless of being cold, started cold, or hot.)

If I do need a new fan clutch any opinions on what kind to buy or what kind not to buy.

Thanks!!

just my humble opinion, but if you can see the bearings...they are not long for this world....friction=heat=wear=failure. Metal on metal with no lubrication is not good. I'm not sure on the brands, I think some people like OEM stuff..I would try to find new and stay away from remaned stuff.

Yup, looks like it's on the way out. Best case scenario it seizes and the fan just turns as fast as the shaft. Worse case scenario it grenades and takes out the radiator and whatever else as well..

Replaced over the weekend , it spins a lot easier now. Drives better too, I imagine it freed up a few hp. Thanks for the help!
