exhaust manifold
So, apparently my exhaust manifold has a crack in it, which i hear is common for TJ's
Someone told me I should replace it with a header because those will give more horsepower. They are also a lot more expensive. What does everyone think, replace with a new exhaust manifold, or a header?

Technically, the stock piece is a header.
Whatever you replace it with, don't expect big HP gains without doing some other serious work to the motor. I'd recommend the cheapest fix possible. The $99 special with the expansion joints seem to work just fine.

Banks claims their header will add 8-10 HP out of the box. As stated above, with more engine work and more so head porting, more HP gains can be noticed. I reciently installed a Bank header on my 4.0L along with a fair amount of head porting. It was defiently worth the extra work, approximate gain 15-20+ HP. Their are a number of cheaper (China) aftermarket headers on the market. I have found problems with them too. Best are ... Made In the USA!
