Exhaust Header Help

Well, it has finally happened to me. My exhaust header has cracked. I have been anticipating this happening for a long time, and I have read that I do not want to go with big name brand headers like banks and borla. Therefore I am looking for a good quality header that does not cost much but will work for at least a couple more years of driving. Thanks!

Head to ebay. There is one with baffles on it that some people swear by. That or OEM replacement - you got 14 years of use out of it. I agree, stay away from any aftermarket header - I speak from experience, my manifold cracked at 30K and it was a hassle finding a quality replacment. They all suck!!! Ditch any gasket that is included with a kit and get a FelPro or other name brand.

Shop around, but this is an example of a Ebay special. $100

You sure your exhaust manifold is cracked?

Its not very likely with your 2000 model that has a 2 piece manifold.

Well then since i have a 2000 and the headers are supposed to be good, in the far future are performance headers out of the questions cause those will break? should i stick with stock forever?

If you do have the factory two-piece headers, and they have indeed cracked, I would just replace them with another set of the same. These ones lasted almost 15 years after all.

Hi Nashonater

Sorry to hear about your header. I understand you’re trying to avoid purchasing from big brand names. However, if you’re looking for a good quality header, Borla does offer one for your TJ (part #17202). It’s made of durable, high-quality, 300-series austenitic stainless steel and is backed by our Million Mile Warranty. It will be the last header you will ever have to purchase for your jeep. I included a link below to the headers we offer for your Jeep. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 805-986-8600 and we’ll help you out. Hope your search goes well!

This being a 2 piece header, does it hold up better than the one piece Borla header?

Not trying to hijack this thread, but why is your header for the 98 TJ (part #17236) for "off-road use only"? Seems like it should be legal for on road too, no?
