Exhaust alternatives?

After going off-roading last weekend I have been thinking a lot about my exhaust/intake lately. My friend encouraged me to go through this water crossing that turned out to be a few feet deep at the drop off. The water came up over my hood, and when I levelled out it was halfway up my door. Keep in mind I have no lift!

Ok, the question is do you guys have any opinions on relocating the exhaust higher? Pics would be terrific too. Thanks in advance.

Wayne

I would imagine as long as the motor didn't stall you would not get to much water in there. I would be more thinking of changing your front and rear fluids or atleast checking them for water also after reading the thread about the the torque converter and tranny if you have an auto I would be checking them also and what about the intake could there be some water in there if you were water was up over the hood.

A lot of guys cut it off and either direct the exhaust down right after the skid plate. Other people take it to a shop and have them bend it a lot higher, or have them add an exhaust stack off the back. If you wanted to do a stack off the back, just ahve it come to about even with the top of the body in the back. You could just saw off the last couple inches of the back of the factory system (where the tip turns down) and then weld some new pipe off the back.
The problem with the exhaust stacked that I see is if you brush up against it it would be hot. Also it could possibly melt your soft top if it is down and it brushes up against it. You could have a tube inside a mesh tube similar to what the Semi Trucks. The outer tube wouldn't/shouldn't get as hot as the other tube. Just some thoughts.

Yeah I checked my intake and the filter was a bit damp, but there wasn't a lot of water inside the airbox at the bottom. I am DEFINATELY buying an ARB. When going through the water I made sure to floor the shi.t outta the engine to not only avoid getting stuck, but also to keep the engine from cutting out and getting hydrolocked. Man, you could smell my clutch for an hour afterwards lol

So I was thinking of doing something clean; like having the exhaust come out through the body somewhere. Thoughts?

I don't see how the exhaust is a problem. I've crossed a lot of deep water where my exhaust was completely submerged. Just rev the motor after crossing to get any water out that may have gotten in there, but the flow of exhaust will not let water get in the pipe too far. Your main concern is your diffs, tranny and intake. Just my .02
