Engine Rebuild/Swap Options for TJ

Hey guys. Okay, I've done a little searching on the boards, and I thought I'd start a thread that would have more organized and straightforward info. (maybe this could even get stickied if it gets good enough)

I have 2 Jeeps. Both are 98 TJs. Both have 100K miles on them. One is a 4cyl and the other a 6.

When it comes to engine stuff, can a 6 cylinder be swapped into a 4 cylinder Jeep without changing anything from the tranny back? Also, are there any easy swapovers that can be done to a 98 TJ that don't require extreme modifications to the drivetrain? I've heard rumors from a buddy of mine (he owns 6 Neons and uses one as a drag car and one as an autocrosser) that there might be a possibility of putting in a newer Neon/PT Cruiser moter and open myself up to all the crap those SRT-4 people are doing.

I'm not looking to build a 400hp Jeep here, just wanted to see if I could beef up the 4cyl to 250hp or so.

Thanks in advance for all the help!!

The Neon motor idea is probably not good. You want torque. Here's one way to get all the power you could ever want:
