engine cuts out

i have a 97 tj with a auto tranny. i just started having a problem. every time i shift to drive or reverse the engine kills out. in park or neutral it idles fine and revs fine. the engine has 74k miles<4.0>. any recommendations?

i checked the codes using this method. only code 55 showed up
