Actually, the one from KWan is only $99 if you don't need the upgrade to the plus model (which adjusts RPM based on engine load).

I wish I'd have seen this yesterday, I just bought the in cab winch controller and wiring kit from the 12 volt guy for $89, for $10 more I would've had throttle control too, and better integration into the interior.

Yes if the solenoid fails it alls to off imediately, its a 2 postion on/off solenoid ad needs the constant draw to stay on.

I spoke with my friend about the plate and he is going to look into possibility of makeing a few, problem is the solenoid mount is odd shapped so he would have to punch/cut out the holes and fit has to be pretty exact. He thinks it can be done, but he would have to have a throttle assembly not just the plate by itself. He said he would look into it. Even then to fab the plate correctly it takes him about 2 hours, so getting the cost down reasonable would be hard. He would put one on a jeep in his shop for $100, so its pretty steep over a hand throttle cable at $30.

Based on the response from other boards as well we are looking into alterative methods reostats/step motors etc. I will keep folks up to date, as well as try and get some kinda schemtaic of the plate itself. He fabs them by eyeball so no real drawings but when you have a full machine shop in your garae its pretty easy to do.

If anyone wants more detailed pics etc I can try to get them up as well.

Even just a picture of the bracket itself might help others to make our own versions

That's not a bad looking rig... The Kwan setup is okay, but I actually like that external setup better. I wonder how it hooks up, and if it is compatible with the '05 throttle body since they changed around the idle control motor from the previous style.

I must admit at first I thought how lame. However I normally run with a hand throttle and I leave it so it doesn't ratchet so when I let go it springs back to idle so it would be useless to me.

With that said and feeling rude. I can see the use of this for winching and running a YORK. I guess if you could provide some detailed photos of the mounting bracket I would personally be greatful. Or send me a PM with a location and I'd be glad to grab them.

First off, the shifter is a B&M short throw shifter that I bent in 2 locations to provide clearance for the Tummy Tuck and also give me a more comfortable reach/grab from the center console.

As for the solenoid being non adjustable Im pretty comfortable at its exact RPM setting. With 4.88 gears and the Rubi 4 to 1 Its dialed in perfect for my wheeling style I have yet to need more RPM's but if I do need a bump I can always tap the gas and let it idle back down. Basically I have removed any crazy lurch you might get.

It would be nice to find a reostat that would let you dial in what you want, but we kept the methodolgy KISS. The solenoid we use is proven to take the heat and abuse in an engine compartment and remains pretty bombproof. Further more any reostat device would require a switch that you dial in it would have to hold selected postioning pretty strongly since last time I checked the area's I want the throttle control on are pretty bumpy Thats one of the reasons folks like the cable hand throttles once adjusted they hold location pretty well.

As for fusing, Mine is actually fused through my Painless power block. The solenod draws .25 amps so in all honesty a fuse while better safe than sorry is really only going to protect you from wire failure. Theres nothing wrong with putting a small in line fuse in the wiring.

I will try to get more info on the plate itself, my buddy builds the plate at his machine shop. There have been a few requests from prefabbed plates from others which I will check on, no idea if he wants to get that far involved but I will post what I can find out.

As for the device on Stu's site it's top of the line and I looked into it, but I really dont care to spend 200$ or more for a throttle control.
on the fuse factor you stated in your OP the a wire came off on the YJ if it was live it could have caused problems,

and $200 for a hand throttle? i think not i have about $20 in mine

I hate to hijack, but does anyone have a computer pin out diagram? The reason I ask is because my 1998 3500 HD Chevrolet has two pins on the computer that you can ground and it will bump the idle up to 1000rpm's or 1200 rpms. This moght be used in a pto aplication. I have an 06 4.0 auto. Thanks.
