Electrical gremlins or wife on crack...

Not really a question:

Got the wife an '05 Rubicon for Mother's Day.

Everything was great.

Sunday night she calls me from the road and says her wipers and 12V auxiliary power plug don't work.

I let her take my 3500 to work on Monday (can you say nervous wreck?).

I get home and hop in her Jeep and everything works. The wipers, the outlet, everything.

I did take the cover off of the column and remove and re-seat the plug ont tne MFS, but that was after everything worked for me and it seemed to be well seated.

I think she may have just wanted to drive my truck...

I drive on the right side, what's wrong with you?

Those wife mods are very tricky.

MFS is probably going out or had water in it.

which 12v plug was she trying? switched or unswitched? left is switched and right is unswitched.

I ask b/c i lost power to my unswitched outlet and plug, the switched one works just fine.

The wipers & switched power outlet are on fuses 18 & 17 in the fuse block & are powered by the same contacts in the ignition switch. Unless there is a bad connection at the switch connector on the 12g red wire (near the middle of the connector), the ignition switch is probably going bad. If it happens again have her wiggle the key but you will likely end up having to replace it.

I don't know what was up with the 12V plug. But I figured out that she was trying to turn on the wipers by turning the end of the stock (like you do to adjust the intermittent wiper delay) instead of clicking it up

Should have kept her in the kitchen.

OK, so...

Maybe she's not completely crazy.

I was driving it this morning and the speedometer all of a sudden just quit.

Then the check engine light came on.

Then some idiot pulled out in front of me and when I hit the horn it didn't work.

Then my GPS came up saying I had unplugged it, like power to the 12V accessory outlet just died.

I pulled over to get a drink at the gas station.

I pulled the codes, P0501 for VSS as expected.

When I came out of the store and got back in it everything worked fine.

Grr...

I'm thinking multiple issues.

Annoying!

I short in the harness could cause that. On the main engine harness there is one 12v wire that feeds about 5-10 things. If that wire messed up it would cause a bunch of issues.

I thought about that, but the plug, horn, and speedo were the only things not working.

I am really starting to miss my Mitchell on Demand log in for schematics...

Oh well, I'll figure it out. Just going to be annoying.

All internittent electrical problems are annoying!
