Look closely at them.
Run your fingertip over them.
My fronts with 42k are very worn down, deep ridge near the edge. I would not consider putting new pads against them.

You get one of two things, low dust or good brakes.

Which one matters the most to you?

I haver had my yellows with centrics for about 3 weeks now and they are still awesome. Even better actually since the squealing has almost gone completely.

Yellows are not available for the rear, just green.

I have been looking at doing the front brakes on my 01 XJ and came across this forum. Does EBC make Yellow stuff Pads for an XJ? Also can I get a set of Centric Premium rotors? One more question, where can I find the testing that mrblaine has done. I have been doing some searching and for some reason I can’t find anything.

Thanks

My EBC green pads are virtually dust free.

Note this statement in the above link:

DO NOT FIT UPGRADE BRAKE PADS TO REAR OF VEHICLE UNLESS SAME UPGRADE FITTED TO FRONT

Is that a mistake?

Nope, you want the grippiest pads on the fronts. If you upgrade the rears, you run the risk of locking them up first and that's bad.

No argument there. But you are saying something different than what the warning says. It can't be both ways; it can't be the same if it's different.

Did they mean to say " an equal or better" instead of "same?"

I've been reading the brake pad and rotor threads since getting my Jeep in '04, knowing this would be a DIY for me eventually. I never thought I would need anything more than the factory setup or equivalent, though, until Labor Day Weekend. I had three teens in the Jeep with me as we climbed to the parking lot at Brasstown Bald in GA. I pulled off at what I realized shortly after was the last gravel stop at the side of the road, maybe 100 yds from the top, to let 3 motorcycles shoot by (they waved appreciatively!). Now, however, I was on a steep grade on gravel. I thought I would just spin the 31s there, so I eased back onto the pavement where it took a great deal of pedal pressure and probably only 1 1/2 but seemed like 10 harrowing seconds to get the Jeep stopped. A little smoking of the clutch got us headed back uphill. I think it'll be the Yellow Stuff and Centric rotors at the next swap out. Trouble is, I have a ton of material left on the current pads. I've had the Jeep for nearly 40K and it looks like there's been no pad wear. It takes nothing to stop the Jeep in FL!

Whatever. If you can't figure it out, don't buy them.
