EBC Pads on a stock brake set-up

Ok, well, I just got done spending a ton on the Jeep and the last thing I want to do is a little upgrade to the braking system, I do want to upgrade to the Vanco kit but it actually stops very well on my 33's with the stock breaks but I think a little pad upgrade would be good. I've heard alot of good things about these EBC Green stuff and Yellow stuff pads.

The questions is will I notice a dramatic improvment over the stock pads with my stock set-up?

Are there any other recommendations to upgrade the stock brake set-up?

P.S. I've read great threads on the Vanco kit and really want to do it. Once I go to 35's I will be upgrading to the Vanco kit, but thats another year from now atleast.

I've been searching the web for recommendations on brake pads.

Nothing on the WWW or jeepforum either.

I have used the green pads on other cars, never my Jeep - they worked GREAT...everything I hear says the Yellow pads make the greens looks bad. If it were me I'd spend as little as possible until I could afford a big brake kit, spending more $ than just the cost of pads seems like a waste. MrBlaine will chime in soon I'll bet, I'd listen to him. He comes off a bit abrasive at times, but he knows what he's talking about.

I don't find him abrasive at all. Rather entertaining, I'd say. In depth knowledge interspersed with sarcasm, doesn't get any better that that.

It would be interesting to hear more about the EBC yellows on the stock setup. I can't quite afford the Vanco kit yet but sure could use better braking in the mean time. I knew I shouldn't have quit my paper route.

My favorite is when people ask a question and then challenge his answer. He has been evaluating, testing and developing brakes, steering etc. for years, and some clown chimes in telling him he's wrong - if they knew the answer why did they ask in the first place?
I suppose it would be fair to describe him as a strong personality who knows what he's talking about.

so basically it would be a waste of money to put really nice pads on the stock calipers?

I guess it depends on how soon you plan on upgrading the rest of the brakes. You can get GreenStuff pads for $100 and Yellow pads for $125. If you're going to upgrade the calipers and rotors before you wear out the pads than maybe you want to wait, but personally I think that if you can improve the safety of your Jeep for $100 and change its a no-brainer. I know my first Jeep with just 33's and stock brakes stopped way to slowly for my tastes, my Hawk pads were a nice improvement, and from everything I've heard the EBC stuff is much better than the Hawk.

Think of it this way. You'll pay about $300 for rockers and you will use your brakes ever single time you drive your jeep, how often would you use your rockers? I know that brakes aren't as sexy as some other mods, but you'll only need them once before you decide they're worth the money.
I have never run EBC pads on stock Jeep brakes, but have run high end pads on a Jeep (hawk pads on a 97 TJ) and I have run GreenStuff Pads on a BMW - both stopped better than their respective stock setups. It is up to you if its worth the $100 or so that you will pay for better pads, but for even a small improvement I would think it would be worth it - factory brakes with any size tire are pretty bad. My next set of pads will def. be an upgrade from stock. I won't even wait for the factory brakes to wear out.

for sure, the brakes could definitely use some work. $100 really isn't that bad
