Easy TJ door removal for stuck door pins

My 2005 LJ rubi has never had the doors off judging by the still new paint on the door nuts. I picked up some craigslist half doors (score for $150! in yellow!) and set about to remove the full doors. I anticipated a difficult removal, and I have a bad back, so I got creative. I have seen some people describe using a jack and really forcing up on the doors and possibly creasing them. I used a 4x4 block, my hi-lift jack with light (2 clicks past contact with the door) and you can wiggle the hi lift and the door back and forth about 2 inches or so, and they gently lift up and out. The two click rule will not make the door fly up and out of the hinges - its just high enough that the threads are still in the hinge hole. Im sure Im not the first to do it - but I did some searching and didnt see anything using the hi-lift - and not any pics....

Good idea. Good score on the half doors. I just have to convince my wife she won't fall out if the doors are off.

Thats why i got them - wife felt too "exposed" with the doors off. I was going to get safari doors until i stumbled across a guy desperate to sell the half doors. Wife loves the half doors - Im sure yours will too. Ask someone local to borrow one for her to try....

only they read the warning label, those doors protect you from nothing dangerous! Just wind, rain, and snow. You should tell your wife that the doors put undsired weight on the jeep and can throw the cog off on a off camber situation.

Nah - she knows the full doors arent good for anything either - she just always felt exposed with the doors off.... She likes the half doors. They did include the uppers - but the windows are cracked and taped. Judging by the mirrors, but they have the proper door latch, I think they are off a 2003. They have some rust where the upper has rubbed the paint on the lip. I started cleaning them up a bit with some wax and papertowels (all i had).

As requested - after pic - this morning in the garage at work on my cell...

As an addition for anyone who is having problems the key thing is to push up right next to the hinge pin not further down the door as that would attempt to push it up on an angle thus causing binding (hope that makes sense?). I find when removing mine by hand I have to put my bottom hand right where the door curves up

Great score! I just picked some up too but mine are YJ doors for my TJ . Was very suprised how easy it was to make the doors fit. Took me half an hour to drill 2 holes for the new strikers and they fit like a glove. The only thing is the door uppers don't fit .

Slight hijack, but I highly suggest the Skinny Pedal door hanger bracket to store your doors when they are off the Jeep.

YJ doors fit a TJ? Anything that you have to do to the doors or the jeep?
