Early 97 TJ MAP sensor

Is the early 97 MAP sensor different from the rest, I was told by the dealer 96-04 4.0 was the same MAP (also some durangos, cherokees, grands, dakotas, full size van, some others..).

I got the part number the dealer said would work from a junk yard, it doesn't. The plug on my harness looks more like one that I saw on a 93 ZJ. I know that YJ's and pre 96 XJ's don't have MAP sensors, but the ZJ's do, is it possible that early 97's have the same MAP as ZJ's? I know a lot of sensors are different from early 97 to later 97, but I thought the MAP was going to be the same. The reason I don't have the MAP already is because I am doing a 2.5 to 4.6 swap. I'm going back to the JY tomorrow and I'm going to grab the ZJ sensor and see if if works, I'm also going to take the part of the harness that I got the MAP from today and see if the wires are the same color as the ones on my harness, so I figure I can either use a different MAP or change the harness end???
I really don't want to get one new, unless I have to because they are $11 at the JY and $100 at the dealer. Thanks for any input JF (are he high five Smilies new?)

Also my TJ was made in 4/96

Early TJs like I had too (my '97 was built 3/96) often used sensors from the YJ. I bought a TJ TPS (throttle position sensor) for a '97 TJ but its plug didn't fit. I swapped it for a '95 YJ's sensor and it plugged right in.

I bought a TPS and a IAC for a 97 too, I ended splicing a connector for a newer TPS into my harness that I got from a newer harness my dad had sitting around, so I'm glad to hear that the YJ TPS works, because when I get my Jeep running again, I'm hoping the TPS works, if not I'll put the old connector back on and get a YJ TPS. I think I'm going to try the ZJ sensor for the MAP tomorrow before I do anymore splicing.

Thanks Jerry, good luck with your TJ, hope you get it back soon.

EDIT: I thought about pm'ing you before making this thread because I know your TJ was made early also, so thanks again

From looking at the parts manual, there are two MAP sensors for the 97. Part# 56028303 is for the non-enhanced OBD2, which should be the early 97. It also states that the 4cyl. uses the same one.

Part# 56029405 which is for the enhanced OBD2. It also is used for both the 4 and 6 cylinders.

Well the ZJ sensor didn't work, but I did find the wiring end for the sensor I got yesterday, it has the same color codes on the wires as my harness so hopefully it will work

because I left it on the 2.5 when I sold it , I'm going to email the kid today and see if he still has it, he has a YJ, so he doesn't need it
