no they aren't. i've been over there for 3 years w/o a rubi. But the forum (as it's name implies) is intended for rubi's. Don't expect to get much out of them if you're asking a tech question that doesn't pertain to something that came on a rubi.
All 03-06 TJ's w/ a 4.0L are the same under the hood, so you can get good tech there about this.
Just don't ask about front D30's, NP231's or a trans that didn't come in the rubi.

a link to a ROF topic about a 160A swap into a '04. He had some issues but posted a fix at the bottom. I'm about to bump it for long-term (4.5 months now) results.

What changed in the 03's? I got all excited about this. I went out and found a 139a from a durango, numbers matched but it did not fit. The number on the alt is 5602-7913 but the number on mine is 56041-864AB. Also, the mount points on the duranago one are basically at 12 and 6, the mounts on mine are like 12 and 7. The other number on mine is TN 121000-3821. Is this upgrade no-good for '03 and above? And more, there was a diode (rectifier) pack on the durango alt but on mine it seems to be built in. Mine looks like Snatchblock's up above (though I swear the mounts are a little off on mine, like I said) and the durango's looks like posts in other threads on this mod. I would like to upgrade but do not need the 160a (yet) and would just like to do the 136a. Although, if someone had the part number and the "TN" number I might still try to find a 160a in a junkyard.

Help!

Thanks!

Mine is an '03 TJ. A '98 Durango's V-8's 160 amp is a direct fit on my '03. No counting grooves, belt or pulley changes.
Do you have any part/label numbers off of the 160a you have?

so i'm looking at autozone.com and all they are showing is a 136amp alt for the 98 durango

They do have a 160 amp from the 02 4.7 durango though.

am I missing something?

Try a '98 V8 Durango.

Here's something for you guys driving a 2000 TJ. I followed this advice and got a direct bolt in, 160 amp alternator at the junkyard. (I'm WhiteTJ on that board)

So to recap, a 2004 Durango 4.7L 160amp alternator is a direct bolt on to a 2000-06 TJ 4.0L. Same mounts & same pulley grooves. Cool beans, I'll add that to my upgrade list.

I made a mistake before so, I don't want to say that is an absolute. It worked on my '03. A lot of changes were made in '03 from the '02s. I went through my receipts and couldn't find mine for the alt. I do have a web account at Advance and I logged into it. I had a fictitious vehicle on my account as an '04 Durango V-8. I looked up the alt part #s for it and compared the part numbers to what is residing under my hood. That being said, I have heard that Rubis came with an upgraded alt and that may be where the pulley grove differences are coming from.

The upgraded alternator may have been an option on some models, and standard on others. I know LJ's came with the 117 amp upgraded alternator, I've got one.

Yup, that is what mine looks like (only without the 4th arm/mount). But if I go with the 160a, a wiring upgrade should be in order too, right?

I haven't had any issues yet but, that I haven't had any long hard pulls since the upgrade.
