Precisely and what happens if you exceed that range of motion by running a longer travel suspesion? Rhetorical I know, but the fact remains, they do have limits to their range of motion and if you exceed or run up to that limit, you break the bonded center bolt sleeve loose and the bushing is trash.
They are also designed to handle a specific load and when you exceed that with heavier axles, tires, braking, armor, and all the rest of the crap we put in our rigs, it's takes it's toll. The main reason most competitors could get by longer, is their rigs are typically lighter.

I look at that bushing in post two and it seems to be a patent infringement on the Currie JJ. I hope Currie has some patent protection. The parts almost look interchangable except for the one threaded part. Either way its certainly not a huge difference I can see to make me want to pay a guy for a copy rather than get the original from a guy you know tests hard.

I know this is kind of a dead thread but there's good info in here and I have one question to ask; how do control arm mounts (both frame and axle end) handle having double JJ's? They appear pretty thin and I'd imagine without anything to provide any give or vibration protection, they might start to wallow out. Am I correct or no?
I only ask because I'm in the midst of a full axle swap and am needing to replace some bushings in the process. I'm moving to adjustable CA's as well so the question is pertinent. ![]() |

it will be more relaxing on your frame mounts also if you have a jj or flex joint in the bracket..with the stock frame mounts you hear of them tearing off,and its true.i still have stock brakets for now but will change them when they fail lol..im thinking the new jj,s will only help the stock brackets..

I'm not so sure the bushing have anything to do with vibration. You're Jeeps are riding on big pillows of air that dimishes any vibration rather effectively.
I can tell you all of my DD Jeeps are on JJs and the ride is more firm and vibration free. Not to mention they articulate much better and you can maintain them by lubing them every so often.

BF makes great stuff and it may have been an anomoly but that's how I saw it. RC joints big thumbs down. Metric bolts make getting replacement 14mm 10.9 bolts very difficult. You would have thought one of the shops or hardware stores would have carried some. Nope only 8.8 bolts like the ones he destroyed and only 2 in the whole town! As for races, why would you go 2-3 years without greasing it? Squirt a little every oil change and you'll have years for trouble free joints. You won't be disappointed with Currie JJs. The only problem with JJs is they are back ordered until the end of the month! ![]()

JJ's use a urethane race.
Johnny Joint® I've come a long way in understanding JJ's since making this thread back in the day. |

There used to be a local competitive rock crawling team called Team Purple. The rig was a custom YJ with a tri link lower front and rear suspenion with straight uppers. The single joint at the frame for the Y link was a Currie JJ with the bolt horizontal. All the side to side locating was done by that single joint and the owner could not do a comp without rolling several times. That single joint never had the snap ring popped out even after multiple rolls. That was enough to convince me of just how good the JJ's really are.

Very informative thread, I've been wondering about the pros/cons of JJ's for a while.
