Door Surrounds

Would door surrounds without the screw in knobs to hold it to the rollcage still work? I'm going to be using them with a bikini top and was just wondering about this. I was thinking that they would since the top will be held in place by the straps and windshied which would keep them from moving. Anyone had any experience with this?

probably not all that well, but I suppose in theory they would work and you could get away with it in a pinch

FWIW, I used zip ties to hold one side on at one point with no issues...

I don't use the screw in knobs anymore at all, and mine work fine.
My new cage does not follow the factory lines exactly, but I was able to get the door surrounds to fit, just no knobs/screw/whatever.

Well someone on USJeeps just PMed me with some for $75 and I'm pretty sure it has all the hardware. I had another offer for $75 but it didn't have the hardware. I thought about the zipties and don't see why it wouldn't work temporarily but I'm just gonna go with the full set for $75.

Zip ties are like 30 cents dude. You could also buy screws with eyelets on them for cheaper and use those. It's your call, I wouldn't pay $75 for the knobs when a few zipties will work just as good.

EDIT: Duh me. If you can buy the full set for $75 over an incomplete for $75. Get the full set!

I think he means he found a set of complete door surrounds, including knobs for $75, not just the knobs

the way many roll cages look in the magazines, I dont know if even the doors will still fit after installing.

I dont see why Zip ties wouldn't work. This is how I roll with my bikini and the door surrounds.

You can buy bolts and washers that fit instead of the knobs for only a few bucks. One of my knobs broke years ago, and I stopped using them then. I have to use a wrench to put them on or take them off, but that is only once in spring and once in fall respectively.

Which Bikini Top are you buying/do you have? The newer Bestop Bikinis come with velcro (hook & Loop) fasteners built in for use without door surrounds. See step 4 (without door surrounds) at this link: www.quadratec.com/Assets/Installation/35977.pdf

I personally like the hook because it pulls nice and tight and gives you a flat edge so water can roll off opposed to the velcro where its a round edge and water can roll right into the cab.
