door lock linkage open, door siezed closed

well i got an interesting issue here, i've been fiddling with the linkage inside the passenger door which connects the lock/unlock 'button/switch' thing at the door handle to the actual door latch mechanism

i fabbed something up as a temp solution so i could unlock and lock the door, it worked perfectly fine, solid as a rock and then when i finish putting the door together, lock it, close it, it doesn't work!

pressing lock/unlock doesnt do anything but give resistance, i tried unlocking it with a key from the outside and still no go, the window rolls down fine so at least its not in any way...

any suggestions how i can open my door? cause this really sucks

thanks

found your problem.

why did you have to/try to modify it ? if something is bent/broke and not functioning correctly just get the parts to repair it

only way your probally going to be able to open your door if you can open from the inside or outside is to use a lockout tool

oh believe me i know thats where the issue is lol

its a long story but the jeep came with a few missing linkages in the door for some strange reason and i've gotten them all through the dealer except the one from the handle to the latch doesn't want to fit, its about 1" short, i've been back to the dealer several times with new linkages and nothing works, the door and everything in there looks perfectly normal so its not like the handle was moved forward or anything else

thats why, what i had previously worked for a few months and now cause i took the door apart and put it back together it seized on something

mine also does that sometimes too the way i get it open is to press the unlock button hard to the unlock way then while holding that i snap the door handle until it unlocks like grap the door handle pull it out all the way and let go and it opens for me at least..

Hey guys! I know this is an old thread but I just had to deal with this today. After several days of endless key and lock button attempts I started to get frustrated and began pounding the door lol. I decided to walk away and enjoy a nice cold beer (YUM). After a few hours and a couple beers I went back out and reassessed the situation. Not being able to open the door I rolled the window all the way down and spread the weather stripping apart with some folded up cardboard so I could look inside. Armed with a small flashlight, a can of pb blaster a paint stir stick, and yes you guessed it... a nice cold beer I watch the movement of the rods, latches etc and then checked the working passenger door to see the difference. I came to quickly realize that the pressure springs especially were seized so I soaked everything down with PB. Right about now your wondering what I used the stir stick for, Well, after I compared side I noticed that the lock rod at the latch end was under excessive pressure and would not stay up in the unlocked position. Using the stir stick (after soaking everything down with PB) I applied pressure to the bottom link of said lock rod until it freed. I continued to use the stick to push down on the link after unlocking the door with the key thus forcing an up and down motion on the lock rod to completely ensure free effortless travel. While I have read several thread trying to explain the removal of door skin (while door is seized closed it is beyond a pita) I found a much easier way to get the job done . The key tools are: a good penetrating oil, a small flash light, a paint stir stick and yep you guessed it, A NICE COLD BEER! I hope this saves someone the frustration and fist pounding stupidity that I first endured.. Thank you and good night

P.S.. Make sure you spray the both handle areas inside the door on both sides of the rolled down glass
