I ordered the best top combo. Windjammer and dust deck for my 01 tj. I do not have door surrounds because I have a hard top. How much of a difference will it make? Is it worth the $$$ to buy them?
Looks like the BesTop version clips into the door surrounds like the factory soft top does, while the other version pictured uses straps around the cage. Not having the surrounds for the BesTop would create gaps and flapping in the wind.
The Bestop version includes two ways of attaching to the side... straps to go around the rollbar and the hard rubber edge that snaps into the door surrounds. I occasionally run without my door surrounds but my bikini top sure fits better and tighter (and is more rainproof) when I attach it to the door surrounds.
I see people listing them on craigslist or FB Jeep groups all the time. Sometimes you'll see an old soft top listed for cheap and it includes the hardware and surrounds. May be worth looking around just to get the hardware, and you have an old beater soft top to use on trails if you have a nice one for daily driving that you don't want getting torn up.
that Top will be a lot tighter like Jerry said using the door surrounds. You will find out in a hurry when raining or windy how much you need surrounds. The rain will leak between the top of door frame and roll bar
