Disco's...opinions and advice please!
Here's the story...I don't have disco's, but after talking with a friend today about what they allow your suspension to do, I want them.
After taking a look at my Sway bar links and then the disco's advertised on Ebay (my Wal Mart), it looks like they would be easy to just make rather than spending that much money on them.
Has anyone else made them home made? Also here is a real "beginners" question...Do most get them all the way around or just in front? What is the advantage and disadvantage of doing all verses just the front?

yes it has been done. Yes I hated them. That's why I spent the money on JKS. They squeeked so bad after 2 months that it drove me crazy. Plus the home depot quick connects are a PITA to get off after awhile.

I have the home made disco's and I like em. they did squeak, so I wrapped them in clear packing tape. no more squeaking. It does take longer to disconnect and I have to zip tie them up. But, i paid six bucks for them. when I can go bigger, I'll upgrade.
Do not disconnect the rear! you'll get minimal extra flex at the cost of uber unstability

Search for Homemade disconnects and you will find a write up on how to make them. takes like 10 minutes.

Here is one of the best writeups on disconnects for a TJ.
The person who wrote this up helped me get my first set togther and they worked very well until I got lifted and my lift had a different system (that involved welding an extension in).
I recommend these for Jeeps just starting out on the trail and I frequently carry them for any virgin Jeeps I happen to come across.
Yeah, they can be a pain...but hey...if a 100 pound girl can put them in... Just make sure you're on level ground.

I made my own. Started with 7/16 clevis pins as directed by the writeup at 4x4xplor. Rattled like crazy and drove me nuts. So I bought some 1/2" clevis pins. You simply hammer them into the end links and they stay there when disconnected. No more rattles, and as long as I'm on level ground, reconnecting isn't that difficult.

Hey qwiksilver, thanks for sending the write-up, that looks simple enough. By tomorrow I wil be DISCO'd!!!
I notice someone said they used the 1/2" clevis versus the 7/16". If you hammer the1/2" in then does the link have enough play to move to reattach it or do you have to hammer it out and then back in each time you disco?
Anyone else have any problems with the 7/16" clevis rattling too much? Any remedies other than the clear tape?
I appreciate everyone's help, this is a pretty cool forum. Now if only I had a decal of Jeep forum.com to put on my rig..........

Nope, the pin stays in the end link all the time. You just pull sideways until it comes out of the hole on the axle bracket.
One or two others here have gone with the 1/2" pins to stop rattles. The only snag I ran into was that the pins the hardware store had were too long to allow removal from the axle brackets after installation, so I trimmed them to teh same length as the 7/16" pins.
