Which direction should I go post-SYE?
I am currently collecting parts dor an SYE kit. This includes Rokmen rear upper and lower control arms, an Advanced Adapters SYE. And a Tom Wood CV driveshaft. I would like opinions on where to go with it after. I will be attending college in the fall. The tj will probably sit at home first year but will join me sophomore year. While I have always drooled over a Super 30 HP30 and Super 88 8.8 swap, I am beginning to feel security should be my first priority, since college campuses, like many places, are not jeep friendly. Let me know what you guys think. Personally I am leaning towards the alarm. Seems the most practical.

im in the same boat. I would either do the metal cloaks or the ucf TT.. I think im going to do tt first as it will gain so much clearance in the middle of the jeep. I think that will gain you the most offroad. I have a viper system in my jeep only because I had it in my xterra before.. It helps but really doesnt stop anything.. just leave the jeep unlocked and dont leave anything valuable in it.. People really dont pay attention to car alarms and anything anyones going to take they will be in and out faster than you or anyone will be able to get there.. The viper is cool and I like it but if I didnt already have it, would I spend my money on it?? No.. and thats coming from another college student

I voted tummy tuck, but would consider changing that to the axles if you have 3.07 gears.
The alarm will become a non-issue if you stop leaving expensive stuff in your Jeep. If it's left just like it would be with the top off, you'll be safe.

Go to your user control panel, click edit options, and under thread display options, you can change your number of posts per page to 40. It's on the first page for me. Also, I would get the alarm.

Stock axle gears?
If so, regear. Upgrade axles while doing this. Lockers, chrome moly shafts, and/or swap the axles out.
And full coverage insurance.

Tummy tuck is probably the other way I would go. Ive heard alot of good things about the Viper alarms. My jeep has $800 of audio equipment (2 10" JL Audio W3V3 Subs and a JL Audio XD600 Amp) behind the back seat which is pretty well hidden but still a risk. The Viper has two proximity alarms: a warning chirp for getting too close and alarm for entering the cabin space. Plus it disables the ignition and would alert me on my phone and keypad. Plus it would leave me with enough $$ to invest in tuffy security consoles, glove boxes, and under seat lock boxes.

Yes the axles would come with 4.88s, Superior EVO 30 spline axle shafts, dual ARBs and all those other goodies. But at $6000, i wouldnt be getting them anytime soon and I feel the money would be better spent securing what I do have now.

Bolt the subs down good.. and be done with them.. Alarms on jeeps are too easily disabled.. I have proximity and the hood thing so you cant open the hood and I can still disable the alarm in under 5 seconds. So can any other professional thief. And to be honest bolt the box through the floor and use a mix of torx, allen, and philips screws on the subs and youll never have a problem.. People arent going to spend the time with those.
Theres no good places to hide the viper modules on the jeeps. much less disconnecting the battery is easy as cake on a jeep. even if you get the battery backup on the jeep, again its easy to find as there is nowhere to hide it.
If your set on security, get a hard top..

I would like to have the subs removable for storage space, but perhaps I can make some disconnects with padlocks to keep them in. Idk future project maybe. The poll is nearly straight even lol. Very different opinions.

That is on topic why I said the Hard Top as it will not be a regret. I have that same alarm from Best Buy and it is awesome, but since I got my HT, I have been less prone to worry as much and can lock everything. It was too easy before with the ST as one could just unzip or cut and it was over. On the other hand,,now I again see about axles and all so its a big toss up. Hope ya figure it out. Am still enjoying my warm quieter hard top waiting on the poll.

You are going to college.... you won't have time to wheel, so the D30/8.8 really won't be needed for several years at least.
Hardtop is nice if that is what you want (I sold mine years ago). However, a hardtop provides little to zero additional security. Same for the alarm,,,,, on a car, they are nice. On a Jeep, they aren't much help. The best advice is NEVER leave anything of value in a Jeep.
Instead of spending money on fenders and crap, I would do repairs and preventative maintenance to help insure Jeep will be dependable transportation to get you to and from school, work, or where-ever you need to get to.

Maybe I can do both. I made $2500 last year at my summer job. $1k for a hard top, $800 for the alarm, and the rest for Tuffy. I probably will still want to put the soft top or no top on so the alarm would still be beneficial.
