Differentials

I just wanted to check and make sure that I'm doing this right. I'm filling up my front and rear diffs (Dana 30 & 35) with my new Rockcrusher covers on. I'm use to filling up to the bottom of the fill hole, however I'm told that i can't do this with the Rockcrushers because of the excess gear oil blowing out the vent line. I looked at my manual and it says 1.18 liters for the front and 1.66 liters for the rear. This works out to be 1.24 quarts for the front and 1.75 quarts for the rear. Does this sound right? I ended up filling the front 2 quarts and the rear 2.5 quarts.

oil

Hey Stu, I have a rubi and I'm fixin to replace my front and rear diff oil over to Royal Purple. I know It takes 75-140, but is there an additive LSD in the D44?

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

If the new cover increases the volume of the housing then filling it with the factory fill amount may not be enough. Did you mark the side of the housing at the level equal to the bottom of the fill hole for the stock cover? If so fill the differential up to that level regardless of the amount it takes (relative to the factory fill quantity). Many of the aftermarket differential covers have the fill holes located higher on the cover so that you can rotate the differential housing to adjust driveline angle. Thus you can either end up filling the differential up too much (if you haven't rotated the diff.) or, as already stated, if the cover allows for an increased fluid volume and you just add the factory fill amount you may be too low. Just my 0.02

Rubi's don't need an additive for their LSD's. But yes the RP does have it anyway.
