Depends on what axles. If you're referring to the dana 30 and 44 in your profile, not for the 30 because the carrier break for the 30 is 3.54 and down; 3.73 and up. You could use the same carrier for the 44 because the carrier break for the 44 its 3.73 and down; 3.92 and up

Then I believe the answer is no. IIRC carrier break on D30 is 3.55/3.73.

still not clear. Can I install 3.73 ring and pinion into the 3.07 carrier? I guess no, but can you explain why? they fit very nicely.

the ring will fit on there just fine, but since the ring is a different thickness, i dont' remember which, it won't line up with the pinion,...so the answer is no, it will not work

still not clear by it will not work. What is the issue if 3.07 carrier with 3.73 gearing? What is the problem if that combination installed? Thanks.

This thread explains it further http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/c...-means-636929/
Basically there are two different carriers for your axle, one for gear ratios of 3.54 and numerically lower and one for 3.73 and up.

sorry to ask again but that thread did not say what is the cause if I dont follow that theory? The reason I keep asking is, I installed 3.73 gearing into the 3.07 carrier to the Dana 30 and it runs fine, 4wheeling also fine. Is there a problem that I do not know? Maybe someone do differently, but I like to do experiment and see what the problem I am getting.
Just like in theory, you can't installed 35" tires without a lift. Reason is they fit, but will rub the fenders.

I'm not an expert by any means but from the research i have been doing on gears latley because i am regearing my jeep is... the thinkness of the ring gear are not the same. if you were to put the 3.73 onto a 3.07 carrier and put it back into axle with the same shimming as before your back lash would be way off so that your pinion would be hitting the top of your ring gear and not in the middle.

As the gear ratio gets numerically higher the pinion size gets smaller. The 3.73 and up carrier places the ring gear closer to the pinion to make up for the smaller pinion size. While it may be physically possible to fit the gears on the carrier, it's not advisable. Since you've already done it, what did your gear pattern look like? Backlash in spec?

I like this answer. So I guess my ring and pinion are not line up correctly. So it will shorten the length of the parts? or any affect in performance? Because I didnt not feel and hear or smell anything that abnormal. Thanks.

Who did the setup? What was the backlash? What did the pattern look like?

I put them on myself. Just plug and play and I did not doing any measurement. I just swap out from 1 Dana 30 to another Dana 30 and switching lower carrier to higher gear to see what happened. Just for fun.
