Diff Fluid Change

I'm doing a diff fuild change on my D35 rear end and I'm worried I may break the plug. I was thinking I should pull off the cover and then take the plug out after it is off. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

If you are worried about breaking it then take the cover off first. Its not a drain plug anyway so you are going to have to take the cover off to drain it anyway.

The D35 should have a rubber plug. As with anything though, always pull the fill plug first, before you drain anything.

I just pop mine out with a flathead screwdriver

Why is it important that he pull the fill plug before taking the diff cover off? I can see if it was a tranny or TC but if hes afraid of it breaking or ripping then it would be much easier IMO to push it out from the inside.

I usually just use a pair of plyers to pull it off. It's a strong plug.

just in case you drain the fluid and then can't remove the fill plug. then you have no way to fill it back up and you can't drive anywhere...

Yeah, what happens if he rips it or something trying to get it out and can't get another one for a couple days? It's just a good thing to always do IMO.

If you are afraid of messing up the little rubber plug, I am not sure you are confident enough to change the gear oil.

most auto parts stores have the rubber diff plugs for only a couple of bucks. why not by a new one, as a spare, when you get the gear oil ?
