Detroit truetrac in a 35

Well from everything I've read here a locker in a 35 is the kiss of death. Would something like the truetrac be more forgiveing or would I be just as screwed?

I have used True-Tracs for 2 years in my D30/D35. It has Yukon axles, and I have beat the crap out of it, with no problems.

No problem with a Truetrac in a D35c... at least within reason.

An Aussie is a locker, a Detroit Truetrac is a limited slip differential... they are totally different from one another. You do not want to install any kind of locker like that Aussie into a Dana 35c.

I wouldn't. An Aussie's a locker, a Truetrac's an LSD. Big difference in terms of the stress involved. You're really pushing a D35, especially when you get some bigger tires involved...

Edit: Jerry beat me to it...

I would think it would be even stronger than a stock dana35 since you eliminate the weak carrier and spider gears. You then really only have to worry about your shafts, and not as much as a locked one. I think it is a great mod.

so a detroil true trac combined with alloy shafts would be a pretty solid upgrade for those looking to improve the 35 on a budget with no intentions of going above 33s?

Correct. Then put an Aussie in the front.

(All this assumes that there isn't already a Trac-lok in that axle...)
