Story (optional)
I bought this TJ while I was serving over in Iraq in 2009, it started out with just a 4” suspension w/ a 3” body and 33‘s and was not much to look at but now I drive my TJ pride. To be honest with you though I probably would never have even gotten into jeeps if it was not for my best friend Ryan (August TJ of the Month Winner) who showed me that spending copious amounts of money on your hobby is well worth it in the end. I would like to thank jeepforum and my local shop “EVB” for all your help, without you guys non of this would be possible. Once again thank you for considering me for TJOTM!!!!

Story: This is my DD. I ended up trading my 2003 Chevy Avalanche, with 27K miles on it, for this Jeep back in February of this year. I thought my Jeep was pretty well built and I wouldn't need to add much to it. Thanks to this forum, and the addiction that soon followed, I discovered that I was VERY wrong. All the mods I listed are mods that I've done to it. I've made plenty of mistakes along the way but I'm slowly beginning to figure things out.
The first thing I figured out was not to take my Jeep to any 4x4 shops. I did that twice and paid for it later. I best thing I've done was take it to mrblaine. He has completely changed the way my Jeep rides on and off road. This addiction never ends. There will be plenty of other mods in the near future.

Story:
I’m a 21 year-old student and this is my first jeep and actually my first vehicle I ever purchased. I bought it back in the fall of 2008 and have been slowly building it ever since. I am quickly learning a lot about my jeep and since buying a welder have been getting into fabrication and custom building bumpers and things, so I like to think it’s progressing pretty quickly. Since this jeep is not my daily driver I have plans for it to be a dedicated trail rig with everything on it custom built or modified by myself. I've always been into wrenching so this jeep is perfect for me to learn and expand my skills. After I finish school I hope to one day open up my own automotive shop and hopefully be fabricating and working on Jeeps for a long time to come. Maybe doing work for a few of you guys someday!

Drive Train

- 37” MTR’s on 17” Racelines
Armor
- Custom flat aluminum engine, trans, & gas skids
- Savvy corner armor, cut for stretch.
- Metal Cloak fenders & flairs (modified for stretch)

Story (optional):
My TJ was very capable (33’s, locked front & rear) and I was satisfied with it until 3 things happened. 1) I rode with Robert Yates for an afternoon at JV and discovered how well a “Blaine Built” suspension can work, 2) I spent time in a friends LJ on steep waterfalls and liked the stability of the longer wb, 3) I spent an afternoon on Sun Bonnet with the Savvy gang (my lack of ground clearance caused me to need winching at least 12 – 14 times that day).

The rebuild (over the summer of 2011) had two primary objectives, 1) make it very drivable on the street for expedition type trips. I wanted to be comfortable driving 5 hrs on highway to one end of the Mojave Trail, then live out of it for 3 days on the trail. 2) be very capable on JV Hammers.

There were many key decisions as the build progressed, but the major decision was to build it for 35’s w my existing TJ D44 and an HP 30, or go to heavier axles and 37’s. When Blaine noticed a JK HP D44 in his driveway (belonged to Gerald), that started the ball rolling toward 37’s. From that point forward the entire build was designed to accommodate that tire size. Every steering link, control arm, spring perch, shock mount, bump stop, sway bar mount, etc. was built by Blaine for the 37’s – no more, no less.

Lastly, I wanted it to look somewhat as if it had come from the factory. Thus the aluminum fenders & corner guards were painted body color. The steel flairs and sliders were sprayed black.

Pictures:

Pic 1 explanation – rear stretch in-work:
1) cover plate over 7+” frame extension. Note the raised body mount, the 1” body lift puck is gone, more importantly the body mount is 1” further away from rocks.
2) frame arch pushed back, body wheel opening not yet cut
3) JK D44 positioned (control arm mounts, truss, out-boarded shock mounts, etc. not yet in place)
4) Stretch Tank mocked in place. Note the bottom of the tank is the bottom of the frame rail; this is several inches higher than the standard position for this tank. Later, the gas skid was fastened directly to the bottom of the frame
5) The frame rear was chopped off 7+”. My old rear bumper is now the rear cross member and it is raised 1” (body lift pucks removed in rear). Great departure angle.

Story (optional):
I got my jeep December 29, 2009 when I was 20. My dad loaned me the money, which I paid off in full on his birthday December 25, 2010. In May of 2010 I put in currie's 4'' lift with front anti rock and ran some 33'' baja claws. I ran the jeep like that until fall when I put 35'' pro comp mud terrains on it. On march 7th, 2011 I put my jeep on jackstands and drove from RI to NY to sell my stock rubi axles to a JF member. Over the next 5 months my friend and I rebuilt the 1 ton axles, and installed all of the mods that I previously listed. It took so long because my work/school schedule was crazy (working 35+ hours per week as a full time student). But i'm proud to say I paid for everything on this jeep, in its entirety, with all my own money. I am now 22 and have a toy that will hopefully last for many years to come.

Well, I was in this contest in September or October and it was a close race til the end. I had really crappy pictures as I hadn’t been wheeling much since my build had been completed. I’ve done a decent amount of wheeling, including a 7 hour road trip to Rausch Creek Offroad Park in Tremont, PA from Bristol, RI. Yes I drove my jeep on 42s, no I did not trailer it. Stayed a pretty steady 65-75 mph or so the whole way. We left on a Thursday night, stayed in a hotel into Friday morning, wheeled all day Friday, camped out Friday night at the park, wheeled all day Saturday, spent the night in a hotel and then drove back Sunday. 3 jeeps made the trip from RI and everyone made it back in one piece, albeit with a little damage here or there. Anyways here are some pics! Goodluck to everyone in the contest and happy wheeling!

Story:

In 2006 I decided to stop at the local Jeep dealership and see what I could find out about the new JK’s about to come out. After torturing the salesman for hours I traded in my 1999 4-banger TJ for a 2006 TJ sport. Making this the fourth Wrangler I have owned. My plan was to keep this Jeep.

I spent well over a year driving and wheeling the Jeep bone stock. My first lift, wheel, and tires ended up being pretty mall crawler. Not happy with my Jeep I found Jeep Forum and the fun began. I went from getting stuck in the mud to wheeling the Rubicon trail.

Future plans include a front locker, more cage work, and new PRP seats.
