Death wobble at around 45-50
My 06 TJ has been having issues with a shake in the front end. It occurs around 45-50 mph. The wobble had been getting worse so i got the tires road force balanced today. The wobble has now become much worse to the point where i have to slow down for it to go away. I brought the jeep back to the tire place and they inspected the front end and told me everything was tight. I swapped out the front tires on my moms 05 TJ with mine to see if it was the tires or not. After driving it with her tires the wobble and shake was gone. I then put my front tires on her jeep and there was no wobble. I don't know where to go from here any input would be great thanks!

1. You do not have true DW yet or slowing down wouldn't cure it it. Bringing the heep to a stop without getting hurt, hurting others and cleaning your drawers out afterward is DW.
2. Your tire wheel combo is obviously part of the problem but, that is just it, "Part" of the problem.
3. 45-50 mph is the magic speed to get real DW.
4. There is no magic cure but, do a search and if, you are still perplexed after performing all of the checks that you find in the search results, post back up and we will try to assist you.

I know you said you took it back to the tire place and they inspected it and said it was tight. But, if it was me, i would thoroughly check it myself. You need to spend some quality time under the front end with someone turning the steering wheel back and forth while you inspect the track bar, swaybar links etc. Also check your wheel bearings. And if you find one thing, don't stop, check all the front end parts yourself. Just my 2 cents.

I probably didn't think this one through. "Slowing down" can be taken several ways. I was thinking that the OP's "slowing down" meant letting off of the "skinny", while a true DW requires coming to almost a complete stop. I apologize for my assumption.
I too have solved a DW by replacing a POS RE 1660 with a Currie CE-9120TJJ but, a "shimmy" is now showing up a couple of months later. It can be almost anything but, I know it is probably tires and/or "iffy" ball joints in my case. I have fresh JJs on the CAs and have the Currie CE-9102K Front end housing JOHNNY JOINT® kit.

Do their DW Cure Packages include a new set of true rims, new trackbars, new control arm joints, new steering gear, and a good tire balance? Because if they don't, then they are yanking your chain.

Thanks for all the input guys. I tightened the track bar at the frame and axle side. I did notice when I had my dad turn the wheel back and forth, that the axle would shift a little bit right to left. Is this normal movement or could it be part of the issue. It appears it moves more at the upper control arm when the axle movement occurs. The wheel bearings seem to be good I checked for play and the shop did as well.

breckboarder55. Thanks for the link. Was the problem with the control arms only after installing a lift? I dont have a lift but maybe its still related to the control arms.
