Dealership changing oil under waranty?

I'm not really sure if this is possible but i have a 2002 wrangler that i just picked up about 6 months ago... i've changed the oil once and now its time for the second. I would rather have the dealer do it if they will do it for free but i'm not sure if this is "under warranty"... I have the 10 year 100,000 powertrain but i'm not sure what else i have. Is there anyway to check out which warranties were purchased? and does jeep offer a service like this?

scheduled maintmence isn't warrentied, but with more expensive cars you might get a service agreement where maintmence will be free for a certain period, the only two car companies that due this from the manufacturer that I know of are Audi and Benz, but the only way to be 100% sure is to look at what you paid for, I doubt you have it though.

As with most 'expendibles' and routine maintenance, an oil change is definitely NOT a warranty item.

But, have you ASKED you dealer how much they charge yet? Or are you just assuming they will have an extortion-based price?

I bought my 2002 from one of the "Five-Star" rated Chrysler-Jeep dealers. They have been running a summer special which includes:
• Engine oil replacement up to 6 qt
• Complete chassis lube
• New Mopar oil filter
• Fluid level inspection
• Inspect front suspension components
for only $19.95!

If you dealer has a website, check it for special service deals too.

Plus, they mailed me a coupon for a free oil change a couple of weeks after I bought the Jeep. Make sure you are on your dealer's mailing list, as some of the better dealers will send out coupons on a regular basis to get you back in and hopefully hooked on using their service department.

Here's more info. From the official Jeep website, there is a link to this:
http://www.mopar.com/m_maint_home.html
which is a Five-Star Jeep dealer locator that links to any specials the dealer is running on service.

Shows quite different pricing on the same specials depending on the dealer. My dealer has the oil change special for $19.95 while another dealer in my area has it for $28.95.

If you know what your doing, do it yourself, and save you some time and money.

What is the cost of doing it yourself? Oil plus filter plus disposal fee? I'm going to guess about $10-12 bucks. How close am I?

The local dealer here in Tulsa offers lifetime oil changes / lubes for $9.95 - guess they want to get you in and keep you there!

Can't imagine being able to do it yourself with a decent filter for under $15.

Oil change using Mobil 1 for me costs about $35, if I use the cheap stuff, it could be less.
