Dash Vents Question

Here's one for someone to figure out. When I turn on my heat or A/C it only comes out the defrost vent and bottom vent. For the first time (I've had my TJ for 7yrs) after I had the A/C on for a while this summer it started to come out the center vents as well. Once I turned it off it stopped and went back to the def. and bot. vents again. It has also done this with the heat. Why doesn't the air want to come out of the center vents too? Anyone?
