Isn't that the ash tray? To get access to it you just flip it out

I "think" and '04 is the same...

pop of the dash piece near the windshield, that runs the width of the Jeep (about 3" wide)...will just pry right up...

take the two screws out you see at the top/center of the console you're wanting off...

pop the ash tray out, and remove the one screw behind it...

then, just pry the whole trim piece off slowly...

then, there's 4 screws holding the switches in place (for rear windshield wiper and defrost)...

about a 2 minute job...no big deal at all...

That sucks! I would have ordered the smoker's package to get the ashtray - I like to keep change in mine. I hate when they don't tell you this detailed stuff on the options sheet!!

Do you have 2 power outlets or is one non-functional?

What else besides the cool silver dash panels, seats, columbia edition stickers and painted fender flares, and rims is different in your Jeep compared to a regular Sport???

Seems like the dealers down here in Houston don't have any of the Columbia editions. Is there any more info except for that 1 page on jeep.com?

IIRC from installing my CD player, we non-ashtray-having folks only have the two screws under the defogger grille holding it together. Of course, I only have one screw on mine, since I dropped one down behind the dash when I was putting it back together.

JP Magazine had an article in the July issue (I beleive) about removing the dash to rewire the lockers on a Rubicon.

On not being able to find a Columbia Edition in Houston I beleive that. My Lady wanted a Tomb Raider Edition Rubicon and we looked all over for one on the east coast finally two different dealers told us that Jeep had sent all TR Rubi's west of the Rockies. I called two dealers in LA area and sure enough they each had 3 to 5 sitting on their lots with more due in. So I can beleive that Jeep might not have sent any into Houston.

the screws are right at the top of the center section just under the cowl vent. after removing the vent piece they are pretty visiable...just ackward to get at cause the windshield is kinda in the way.

Here is the article he alluded to. I found in a roundabout way as is the nature of the Internet:

NOW.. how can I get those silver-painted dash panels on my future 04 TJ? I really like them!

I guess a winter coat is a tough sell in Houston where the weather barely gets to freezing in the middle of the night in what they call "winter" down here.

Take that Rubi through some twisty, off-camber trails with a couple hill climbs... That screw will fall right out.
