dana 44 swap driveshaft too long?

got some dana 44s out of a Rubicon putting them into my "x" with a rc 4'' lift kit. got them up in there but it was a pain to get the u joint into the yolk and now the control arms dont want to go in. am i going to need to shorten my drive shafts? or when i set the axles down on the the tires will it line up? any info would help.

You will most likely have to shorten the shafts. The snout is longer on the 44's I believe. Some one will chime in if not.

you put the driveshaft on before the control arms???

the D44 pinion is larger than the D35...when i swapped my Rubi D44 rear in i had my rear driveshaft shortened by an inch or so....if you run your stock shaft then you'll need to get a 1310/1330 u-joint.

No, you will not have to shorten the driveshaft. First, the D44's pinion is only, at most, perhaps a half-inch longer than the D35c's pinion. Second, nearly any suspension lift height at all easily creates more additional space for that barely 1/2" longer driveshaft length.

so would the best way to put the drivshafts on be after i set the suspension on the ground? or how should i go about it? also will the transfer drop kit effect the driveshaft angle? sorry if i sound like a bug just want to get it done right.

Completely install the axels and sit it back on the ground before even trying to install the shafts.

Once on the ground you will easily / safely be able to get the shaft installed. There should be plenty of slip to allow you to do this.

Yes the transfer case drop is installed to change the driveshaft angle and if it was needed with the 35/30 then you'll need it with the 44's.

Get you an SYE so you can ditch the transfer case drop in the future. Belly clearance will help you more then the lift.

like they say: "Every Jeep is different"

when i installed my rear RUBI D44, i got everything istalled, set it back on its feet, and tried to installed the rear driveshaft and it would NOT fit, it was too long and i was running a BB at the time. i took it to a driveline shop and had them shorten it a bit and fixed it, i installed a 1310/1330 u-joint and everything worked great.

The basic math says a 2" lift would have provided the added space needed for the barely 1/2" longer driveshaft. A2 + B2 = C2.

Perhaps the pinion yoke on the Rubis w/ 1330 joint has the centerline of the joint a little bit further away from the axle than the normal 1310 yoke does?

I just swapped a new D44 with a 1310 yoke into my 02 X, and the DS bolted right up.

i understand A2 + B2 = C2 but the driveshaft would NOT work, i HAD to get it shortened in order for it to work, this is just my experience maybe i took it to the driveline shop and they are the ones who decided the length to shorten it, i had them try to install it and they said it needed to be shortened ~1".

maybe thats it, IDK, i just know, with running the regular stock D35c rear shaft and the slip yoke, in my case it had to be shortened.
