Dana 35 - 27 spline chromoly shafts

Dana 35 - 27 spline chromoly shafts...

Who's running these? How much did they cost you?

I'm looking to upgrade to get a slight amount more reliability but don't need a super 35 kit yet or a dana 44 or a ford 8.8 .

Thanks,
Rick

no. the carrier is 30 spline and the stock 27 spline shafts WILL NOT fit into a 30 spline carrier

There is only one company I am aware of that sells chromemoly 27 spline shafts. They are in quadratec cataloge. They are pretty spendy and only solve half the problem. Just as many, if not more, people break there carrier or spider gears.

I picked up some HD 27 spline shafts and have been running them for 1.5 - 2 years now.

So far so good.

Here's the info on the shafts I ran:

Yukon Axle and Gear Part Numbers:
Left D35 Axleshaft - YA M35C-27-L-HD
Right D35 Axleshaft - YA M35C-27-R-HD

Supposedly the bump strength by 15-20%. Not the same as a Super 35 (30%+) but better than stock and reasonably cheap.

Including shipping I got them for about $100 / shaft through http://www.dc4wd.com. Prices may have changed since then. Be sure to verify you're getting HEAVY DUTY 27 spline shafts. They're not too common since everyone usually goes for the 30 spline stuff (which requires a different carrier).

There may be other HD chromoly 27 spline shafts out there, though. Look around.

A few years ago Yukon did make 27 spline 4340 shafts. not anymore though. Now the heavy duty shafts are made out of a slightly stronger then stock material. I don't think they are much, if any stronger then stock.

I believe it was Yukon that said they discontinued the production of the hd shaft because they were still junk. Save your money and go 30 splines or just buy extra 27 spline shafts to replace them as they snap.

I don't think anyone called them junk. I think they discontinued them because the super 35 kits became more affordable. Alloy USA sells there 30 spline shafts for 100 apiece. Superior has said that they stopped making the 4340 27 spline shafts because the failure rate was to high. I.e. they had to many warranty returns.

Ok, it was Superior's axles that were junk.
