dana 30 axle seal replacement without removing diff..

Can you replace the axle seal without removing the diff? Its on the short side? I told my friend you had to remove the diff but he dont think he has to.. he said he got the seal out with a long bar and all he did was remove the shafts... however he ruined the new seal while tring to put it in..

No, the way the seal is made it will only press in one way, and that way is from the carrier side. Usually there is so much dirt and junk built up in the axle housing that you wouldn't want to try to push the seal in from the wheel side.

well my friends jeep is a yj he said he can remove the vacume disconnedt plate and put the seal in form there.. anyone know if this is correct?
