D44 diff cover
Now that my diff is rotated, I know that when I goto fill it next I'm not going to be able to fill it up all the way unless I'm parked on a big hill.
However, I was thinking that if someone make a cover, with the fill plug higher, I could get more fluid in there. I couldn't find anything searching, does anyone know of someone who makes something like this?

Should the plug be higher? Doesn't the fluid need room to splash around in? I know that in a hydraulic world too much fluid can cause things like hydrostatic lock and overheating. Heated fluid needs room to expand and breath.

I'm not looking to put more fluid in, because my diff no longer sits level, if I fill it to the plug, there would be less fluid in it then there should be.

Oh, OK.
Drill a hole, weld a nut on the inside and plug it with a bolt and felt type washer.

Bob, fill a ziplock bag full of Diff fluid and seal it in. A few rotations will tear apart the bag and get the process going. Well, there are those lexan diff covers now..
Otherwise, weld and tap a new hole! ![]() Last edited by K9JEEP; 08-12-2002 at 07:58 PM.. |

I think I'm gonna weld and tap a new hole, that seems to be the best idea. I know the plastic bag is safe, but I'd feel kinda awkward knowing that my diff just chewed up a sandwhich bag
