why be mad? if i needed one i would buy a new one with the correct part number. were just trying to help you out by having you get a correct one. it will probably be cheaper than what youre about to do.

Well since anything can break when it comes to vehicle parts, and since you seem to have plenty of money. Why don't you buy me "The correct part numbered locker" and I will be glad to install it.

Fair enough. If it works for you for a while, then more power to ya...

That said, I'm hoping you don't drive that thing on the open road...if so, you'll be exposing other motorists to harms way, unnecessarily...be it an implosion, catastrophic or not.

I can almost understand this if one happened to have some parts just lying around...almost. But still, no: it seems to me that if the locker was intended to work in both axles, there would not be separate part numbers.

Oh, and nobody's upset, Farmkid...we're just raising eyebrows, is all. I hope it works for you, but I'm not holding my breath just yet...

Thanks for almost understanding Sundowner. Yes I did just have it lying around the shop. And yes it was installed for a big 4th of july ride. Pending on what happens during the ride if it lives I might let it stay. Probably the reason Detroit used to different part numbers was 1. Because of a 35 having C-Clips and 2. They make more money by selling two different part numbers. The old saying if the shoe fits then wear it. I miked the axle gears and the spider gears and the cross pin. They are all measuring identical to each other.

How would Detroit make more money with two different part numbers that cost the same?

You sell 100 units of part A at $5 a piece and 200 units of part B at $5 a piece you make $1500.

Or you sell 300 units of part A at $5 a piece since you no longer make part B because they are the same thing....you still make $1500. Simple math.

Yes..How do you know that part a and part b cost the same. There might be a price difference between the two. That's what I was talking about
