Hey everybody!!!
I should be receiving my new custom made rockers made by ZachV. www.AtoZfabrication.com
soon.
I was wondering about the instalation.
As you can see they are body mounted. I am contemplating on using either pop rivets(easiest but maybe not the strongest) or nuts/bolts, and washers(a little harder do to the accessability of a couple of the holes and not as sharp looking)
Any suggestions?
How strong would stainless steel pop rivets be?
How about if I used a combo of pop rivets on the side panel and grade 8 bolts on the unerbody mounts?
Thanks again!!!

Mine are on order too...I plan on taping off underneath them. The marking the holes. Drilling. then removing the tape. Rustoleum on the drill holes. Then I am going to add a small bead of silicone around the holes. Then bolt it down...
I talked to Zach the other day and he is delayed due to broken machinery...Grrrrr....I managed to maek it through last weekend without any rocker damage...About the only thing that wasn't banged up...

Thanks Owen!
Have you ever use pop rivets?... or know about there strength?
It looks like the first bolt to the left on the driver side (and vice versa on the passenger side) is tough to get at. In fact i think you have to do some sheet metal cutting on the inside to the left of the pedals.
Thats why i was thinking on using the popo rivets, cuz i would have to access the back of the holes.
Let me know what ya think

I plan on using bolts...Rivets are not strong enough IMO for this application...Maybe for cornber guards but I plan on smashing these against large mean rocks...They are gonna get bolted...I have the better part of a snap on tool truck at my house so I should be able to figure something out...

Sence yall are on the subject of rocker guards i like the design of the tube welded on as like a step my question is how strong is this. will it deform the rocker pannel? I was also wondering if any one has seen any like these but on the bottom of the steps have like metal welded on to keep mud and rocks from flying up the side of your jeep kind of like a big mud flap going down the side of your jeep.

I plan to use bolts on mine. In addition, I am having the tube step welded on as well. Pics and everything will be available at my site once I am done. All that is there now (in terms of Jeep parts) is a pictography of my Olympic Mountaineer rack install. Lots of wheeling pics though.

I agree that bolts are the only way to go for rocker gaurds so you can use as a high-lift point and take hits without fear.

definitely bolts there. Rivets will not take a big hit, and with bolts you can take them off if necessary later(repaint, hammer out, etc...)

Are you guys planning on putting a backing plate inside the tub? I have been debating this, as I have no facilities to cut one...

Response on Intalling from Zach V :
Shawn, thanks for the heads-up on the posts. I am not a member of the
jeepforum, but it looks like a great place.
I "prefer" atleast 5/16" grade 5 bolts be used, but I make the option
of rivets for those that want them for ease of installation. The other
problem, like mentioned, is the rear bolt hole being obscured in late
model TJs. One customer cut an access hole to enable to still use a
bolt there. That hole is as far from the rear edge as I would feel
comfortable with and will fit early TJs without problem. The other
option would be a hex-head sheet metal screw used in place of the bolt
for that one.
I am not going to make any comment on the sealing to the body
question. There are others that are better qualified to answer this
than me.
Shawn, please feel free to post this on jeep forums if you want.
Thanks again for the opportunity to work for you.
Zach V.
