custom dashes?

Has anyone put a custom dash in a TJ, I have seen them in CJ's. I dont like the look of the factory plastic dash, and besides the metal frame of my dash is all rusted, and i want to do all autometer gauges, so i would like to do a custom dash if anyone has any ideas or opinions please post.

it's been done. will take a lot of work behind the dash. there is a lot of stuff behind there that is better hidden and routed on older models. it's been done plenty though.

Doubt it. I wouldnt mess with airbags, could be dangerous. And the soft plastic airbag cover on the stock dash wouldnt be as dangerous when it flies off as a homemade metal plate

if you're making a custom dash, it's custom. that means you customize it. if you want a passenger airbag, you have one. if you don't, you don't.

anyone good at welding and electrical work could do this, i cant do either so i guess it would probably b pretty expensive labor wise to complete this project.

It might look like ***, but you could leave the passenger airbag components intact (dash panel and everything) and just paint it a color to match your custom dash. Just kinda integrate the factory passenger side dash into your custom dash......

i guess if i kept the factory airbag cover and the factory gauge cluster it would balance out each side then have the custom aluminum dash run in between them. I want to mount a marine CD player http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Xr1vb4B...1050&I=020CMD4 in the custom aluminum dash and recess it so i can put a door of some kind over it that locks. What are some other ideas that you guys would incorporate into a custom dash if you were to make one.
