Cowl Vent Door Flapping (Pic)

I was working on my wiper motor the other day, and I had the cowl cover off. I noticed my HVAC vent door hanging freely down in it's enclosure. I have been having some vent problems for a while now, and while it is tolerable, it is not enjoyable. You can hear the darn thing flapping back and forth when driving over bumps and turning, (very annoying). I get water on the passenger floor board. Also, the A/C works great on coldest temperature setting, but if turned up warmer (still cold, but not coldest), the face vents blow cold while the floor vents slightly blow hot air (even when not on BI-Level). Is this door the culprit? What do I need to do to fix it?

btt, I'm guessing this isn't a common problem. Also, as far as I can tell, my defrost vents are always blowing, even when system is turned off.

It apers according to my parts diagram you'll need to change out the whole upper housing to fix it. I'm sure it's not gonna be a small job.

While you may be able to replace just the door, it is more than likely you have to remove the entire evaporator case. It is not a small job, the dash has to be removed.

Frankiefire,

Do you have a part name identification chart that goes with your schematic diagram?

Take out the whole dash, huh guys?

Yep mine does this too. If I turn the a/c from the coldest it blows warm air on my feet.

So is that door suppose to be flip up and closed? Could be as simple as a spring clip fell out so it dosen't pop up anymore.

I have no idea. I know that if you turn on the system, depending on which setting you select (Fresh, Recycle, etc.), the door does get sucked back up into position. Whenever you turn off the system, the pressure levels back out, and the door falls back open, and swings away.

Back from the archives. Four years later and I still haven't fixed this, but I would like to soon. Does anyone have any other ideas as to the problem, how to fix it, etc?
