im too lazy to take pics right now...but this thing is a BAMF. i can just hear that thing suck'n the cold air in... def worth the time and little money....took me about 2 hours because i didnt have a hole saw(just some cruddy HF sideways cutting drill bits). i had an open cone in a shielded area before this, and this is HANDS DOWN superior.
im going to order that fancy $50 paintable plastic/stick on scoop from quadratec(the purple 1 in the pictures) and factory match the paint. ...ill face it forward though "because it looks cooler", and isnt that what we're all baout anyway? ![]()

oh! and all i needed was that hose, the 2 square connecter things(to attackt the hose to the filter, not go through the wall), a 90degree 3" rubber plumbing elbow trimmed down, and a filter(which i already had)

I saw someone say that it sounds awesome, but really, how loud is it. I recall from my ricer days that a K&N was typically pretty loud under acceleration and that was on a little 4cyl. Curious what the cabin noise is like before I start to do some cutting. I can handle a little noise, but with jeep acoustics wouldnt want to be very loud.

i have a magnaflow turndown under the passenger seat so i dont hear little stuff like that very well.
you can hear it when you start up, and if you shift quick(high rpms). i would say its tolerable, but thats just me. the brief noise is no louder than the ac turned up for a sec. |

I don't hear it sucking wind that much anymore.. either I got used to it.. or my stereo system makes up for it. It is by no means an intolerable sound

![]() I just cut my original intake tube in half and put the 90 on it, it's the right length, and the flex at the end makes it perfect for the angle of the firewall |

under acceleration this is pretty loud, I have a flowmaster 40 series, when I step on it, it's definantly louder in the cabin. Other than in acceleration the sound is the same. Throttle response is better for sure, and a little more pick up on the freeway.

looks great but also looks like too much work to simply change the filter/clean it

Would this work for a 2.5L yj? I really want to do this, I don't need a huge safari snorkel but I want something a bit higher. Where did you connect the hose that goes from the intake box to the engine?

I went with alittle different route, as I didnt want to have to get in the cowl to check/change the filter.
I used a K&N Apollo Intake kit. All in all I am pleased, it went in pretty good, and JUST fit. The stock tubing was cut to length, and attached to the Apollo housing using a rubber sleeve from Autozone. Some electrical tape had to be wrapped around the stock tube and Apollo to get them to match up with the sleeve. The sleeve was 3" and the tubes were about 2.75" OD. The stock tube is a bit of a POS. Its quite sturdy, but thats cuz its THICK !!! The ID is not very large at all, and not even round, this will get replaced with some nice metal tubing later on. A 3.25" hole saw was used to put a hole in the firewall, there was barely room for it. The hole was then lined with some rubber hose. Cut the rubber hose long ways, and slide it over the edge so there is no sharp edge. Then the flexible end of the Apollo ran into the cowl, with the flared end on the end, like the end of a trumpet, inside the cowl. Seat of the pants test drive around the block shows improvement ![]() It sounds a bit better, after taking the carpet out, all I heard was fan noise, not it sounds like a motor again. Not loud by any means, just a slight throaty sound. It seems to have just a bit more pickup, or at least wakes up a bit earlier in the RPMs. I will see how the gas millage goes though, and I am very interested to see how it does on hot days. I was noticing a lack of performance on hot days. ~John

Unscathed Still wondering how you ran the hoses from the engine into the intake or the flex hose. See where jtice Ran that hose from the engine to the k&n intake, where did you run yours?

I like that K&N setup. How do you check/change the filter on it? Do you have to undo those 8 bolts?
