Convex driver's side mirror; FYI

Some time ago I posted here about a factory convex driver's side mirror, figuring they had to exist for export and probably for right hand drive mail Jeeps.

Some here suggested having a glass shop fit a generic convex mirror, which is no doubt the most cost effective way to go.

I saw a mail Jeep with a factory mirror, and the parts guy at the Jeep garage agreed to do some poking around on his computer. He was a little mysterious about where he got one, but it is now on the Jeep; same price as any replacement mirror.

Well worth the trouble; gets rid of the blind spot and makes it easy to back up.

Any reason you didn't just add a spot mirror?

Personally, I like the combination of the flat mirror and the spot mirror. Of course, I also drive a truck for a living and am used to having both on each side of the truck.

I had rectangular spot mirrors mounted below the regular mirror housing, attached at top and back with double sided tape. They actually worked fairly well in daylight, after some convoluted adjusting. After dark, they gave WAY TOO MUCH information, and I couldn't trust them for a lane change.

The Jeep garage handed me the mirror sans packaging (!), so I don't have a parts number. Like I said, my parts guy was a little mysterious about how and where he got the part.

If you want to see what it looks like, go look at the passenger's side mirror on your Jeep- mine is an '04, so it has the newer plastic housing with the mirror able to move within it.

It is a mirror image (sorry!) of the passenger's side, right down to the 'objects in the mirror' statement. I got the entire assembly; bracket, arm, housing and mirror. Apparently there is no way to replace JUST the mirror; if it is broken, you have to get a new assembly, or else have a glass shop cut one and glue it in.

Anyway, I am pleased; not sure why, with such a large mirror, it is hard to adjust for the driver's side blind spot.

FWIW, I test-hopped a VW van; it had a vertical rectangular mirror on the driver's side, and a horizontal one on the passenger's side. The driver's side may have had convex lens; the passenger's side certainly did. Best mirrors I've ever seen.

They do, but the additional mirror is only on the passenger's side....at least the ones I've seen. Those mirrors might have the same problems as my add-on convex mirrors; that of giving too much info in the dark. I've only seen the pictures; haven't tried a set.

One of the posters that responded to my original thread had a lead on a set of mirrors with extra convex lenses on BOTH sides...I didn't think that was from Quadratech, but I'm willing to be wrong about that.
